As in the current school year, we continue to be requested by the Senate to collect the parent contribution for learning materials for students in the 7-12 grades. The participation is legally required according to the Berlin school law (§ 50 Abs. 2 Schulgesetz Berlin). The contribution can be up to 100 EUR per student however, we plan to remain below this maximum amount.
Therefore, we have identified a few learning materials per grade level that we would like you to purchase by the beginning of the new school year.
Families with a Berlin Pass (BuT), receiving social welfare, housing benefits, or federal student aid will be exempted from payment for learning materials. Please present the relevant documents to Frau Borschel, Business Manager (Room W124). The papers must be valid up to and including August 1, 2024. If you would like to take advantage of this arrangement, please contact us as soon as possible.
wie bereits im laufenden Schuljahr sind wir von Seiten des Senats auch weiterhin aufgefordert, von Ihnen den Elternbeitrag für Schüler*innen in der 7.-12. Klasse einzufordern. Hierbei handelt es sich um die gesetzlich vorgesehene Beteiligung an der Beschaffung von Lernmitteln (§ 50 Abs. 2 Schulgesetz Berlin). Die Höhe der Eigenbeteiligung kann bis zu 100 Euro pro Kind betragen, die wir jedoch nicht komplett ausschöpfen werden.
Daher haben wir pro Jahrgang einige Lernmittel identifiziert, die von Ihnen bitte vor Beginn, spätestens aber zu Beginn des neuen Schuljahres anzuschaffen sind.
Eltern mit geringem Einkommen, z.B. Inhaber eines Berlin Passes, Empfänger von Sozialhilfe oder Wohngeld können eine Kopie Ihres gültigen Bescheides als Nachweis bei der Schulleitung oder Frau Borschel (Business Manager, Zimmer W124) abgeben und sich von der Elternbeteiligung befreien lassen. Der Nachweis muss den 1. August 2024 beinhalten. Bitte melden Sie sich frühzeitig bei der Schulleitung, wenn Sie eine Befreiung beantragen wollen.
Seven 12th graders who have been involved with the MUN program at JFKS for many years just returned from a trip to New York.
This trip was special for many reasons. For some of our students this was their first time in the US, and the majority had not seen or experienced life, school or college in the US.
We were able to stay with host families from our partner school Xaverian High School who graciously opened up their homes in Staten Island and Brooklyn again. The students experienced family life, enjoyed dinners, conversations and visited museum, played games, went shopping, to the beach and more.
Our group activities in New York included a tour at the Museum of the Chinese in America, the African Burial Ground, the 9/11 Memorial site and museum, sightseeing throughout Manhattan, Central Park, and more. Students prepared short presentations to tell us about the five boroughs, politics and music in New York, Chinatown, and Wall Street. We met up with Tony (JFKS Class of ’23) for a tour of New York University (NYU). He then joined our group for dinner with Xenia (JFKS Class of ’18) who is also living in New York.
A meeting at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations gave us insight into their role and current as well as future goals. The tour of the UN Headquarters allowed us to ask many questions and we were able to walk into rooms used by the committees the MUN program simulates, e.g. the Security Council, ECOSOC, and the General Assembly.
At XAVMUN, one of our students chaired and others represented several countries, challenging all delegates to participate and debate.
For fun, we each picked Major League Baseball teams to follow and attended a Staten Island FerryHawks game where we got to learn about baseball rules, strikes, balls and watch former World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval play. A visit to the Jackie Robinson Museum allowed us to connect baseball and sports with civil rights and US history.
It was a packed and busy week that went by fast. We had a great time though and memories were definitely made! Special thanks again to Xaverian HS for hosting us.
We will be hosting a Parent Evening on Wednesday, May 29th, at 18:00 in the Large Aula to provide an overview of Child Protection at JFKS. Parents play a critical role in supporting the safety of all students. We will be providing an overview of our Child Protection Plan, as well as reviewing resources that families can use to educate themselves and their children. We hope to see you there!
wir werden am Mittwoch, den 29. Mai, um 18:00 Uhr in der Großen Aula einen Elternabend veranstalten, um einen Überblick über den Kinderschutz an der JFKS zu geben. Eltern spielen eine wichtige Rolle für die Sicherheit aller Schüler. Wir werden einen Überblick über unseren Kinderschutzplan geben und Ressourcen vorstellen, die Familien nutzen können, um sich und ihre Kinder zu erziehen. Wir freuen uns, Sie dort zu sehen!

Despite the serious fire and the fumes and smoke associated with it near our school in Lichterfelde this morning, we will still be performing “THE VISIT – Der Besuch der alten Dame” today as planned. The authorities issued an all-clear for the area this afternoon.

Liebes Publikum,
trotz des schweren Brandes und der damit verbundenen Rauchentwicklung heute Morgen in der Nähe unserer Schule in Lichterfelde, werden wir wie geplant „THE VISIT – Der Besuch der alten Dame“ heute zur Vorstellung bringen. Die Feuerwehr hat am Nachmittag eine Entwarnung für das Gebiet herausgegeben.
Wir freuen uns, Sie heute Abend in der kleinen Aula begrüßen zu dürfen.
All students are in their HOMEROOMS and will not be dismissed without a parent picking them up personally. Please sign out your child in the homeroom.
Hort children will be in the HOMEROOM as well. Sign out is required.
Late Birds children will be in Late Birds.
Bus children will also remain in their homerooms until they are picked up by a parent.
All children must be picked up by an adult. Any parents who are unable to come to school must make arrangements with another adult IN WRITING to sign out their child.
HIGH SCHOOL
Students over 18 may leave campus on their own.
Students under 18 must be signed out by a parent from the high school office.
NEW: All students in grades 7-12 can be released with parent permission presented to a HS staff member in the form of a text message or email or phone call. Please message or call your child’s phone.
The school will remain open as a shelter-in-place location until the last child is picked up.

ALLE KLASSENSTUFEN EK-6
Alle Schüler befinden sich in ihren HOMEROOMS und werden nicht entlassen, ohne dass sie von einem Elternteil persönlich abgeholt werden. Bitte melden Sie Ihr Kind im Klassenraum ab.
Die Hortkinder werden ebenfalls im HOMEROOM sein. Eine Abmeldung ist erforderlich.
Late-Birds-Kinder bleiben im Late-Birds-Bereich.
Buskinder bleiben ebenfalls in ihren Klassenräumen, bis sie von einem Elternteil abgeholt werden.
Alle Kinder müssen von einem Erwachsenen abgeholt werden. Eltern, die nicht in der Lage sind, zur Schule zu kommen, müssen schriftlich mit einem anderen Erwachsenen vereinbaren, dass ihr Kind abgeholt wird.
OBERSCHULE
Schüler über 18 Jahre dürfen das Schulgelände allein verlassen.
Schüler unter 18 Jahren müssen von einem Elternteil im Sekretariat der Oberschule abgemeldet werden.
NEU:Alle Schüler der Klassen 7-12 können mit der Erlaubnis der Eltern, die einem Mitarbeiter der Oberschule in Form einer Textnachricht, einer E-Mail oder eines Anrufs vorgelegt wird, entlassen werden. Bitte senden Sie eine Nachricht oder rufen Sie das Telefon Ihres Kindes an.
Die Schule bleibt als Notunterkunft geöffnet, bis das letzte Kind abgeholt wurde.
