WHO IS THE STUDENT COUNCIL? 

The JFKS Student Council (SC) is made up of 76 class representatives from classes 7 through 12 and of 2 Presidents. Each homeroom class from 7a to 10f elects a German and an American representative. Grades 11 and 12 elect 14 (7 German and 7 American) representatives each.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL?
We, the SC members, serve to improve the John F. Kennedy School and to learn about democracy and leadership.

HOW IS THE STUDENT COUNCIL STRUCTURED?
The Student Council is divided into committees . Every class representative is a member of a committee, and every committee is led by one or two Committee Head(s). Currently, the Student Council has seven committees:

  • Spirit Event Committee
  • Dance Event Committee
  • Communication Committee (CoCo)
  • Management Committee
  • Charity Committee
  • Fundraising Committee
  • Career Day Committee

SC REPRESENTATIVES TO OTHER BODIES
SC Representatives, who are elected by the entire SC, represent the Student Council in the following bodies of JFKS:

Educational Directorate (Erziehungsdirektorium/ED)
  • Representatives: 1 German, 1 American; 2 votes
  • Term length: 2 years

School Conference (Schulkonferenz/SK)

  • Student Representatives: 2 German, 2 American; 4 votes
  • Term length: 2 years

Parent Council (PC)
  • Student Representatives: 1 German, 1 American; no votes
  • Term length: 1 year

Verein
District Conference (Bezirksschülerausschuss/BSA)
  • Representatives: 1 German, 1 American; no votes
  • Term length: 1 year
  • Website: Bezirksschülerausschuss
  • Explanation: In the District Conference, student representatives of all schools in Steglitz/Zehlendorf meet to share experiences and to possibly work on common projects.

SC REPRESENTATIVES TO DEPARTMENTS
The SC also sends representatives to the High School’s departments. These representatives attend at least one open department meeting per semester and act as intermediaries between the Student Council and that department. Department representatives are elected by the Student Council and have a single year term. The Student Council has department representatives with the following roles:

  • Rep. to the Fine Arts Departments (Art, Drama, Music)
  • Rep. to the German and English Departments (German, English)
  • Rep. to the Foreign Language Departments (French, Spanish, Latin)
  • Rep. to the Math Department (Math)
  • Rep. to the Science Departments (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • Rep. to the Social Studies Department (the Social Studies Department is a single department, but it encompasses Political Science, History, Geography, Philosophy)
