Information about school during the coronavirus closure

Dear JFKS Community, 

We hope you are doing well in the challenging situation. 

Please make sure your children understand that the following three weeks (until Easter vacation) are not additional holidays. Instruction will change, as much as possible, to distance learning.  The teachers will send assignments to the students.

In order for this to happen, it is essential that the students read their emails on a daily basis and work on the given problems. Please make sure that they do so.  Elementary students will receive information as an email to their parents from the homeroom teacher.

The teachers expect that the students study independently. The teachers count on your support in this very unusual situation. 

During the next three weeks of school closure, administration will have a person on duty from 9:30 – 14:30 Monday through Friday. The person listed below is the main contact for that day although there will be more administrators on site. 

During the open school hours of 9:30 – 14:30 each day, parents and students are welcome to come to school to collect materials from lockers or from the main office in the event a teacher has asked the students to pick something up. Parents of elementary school students will need to coordinate with their homeroom teachers to access student personal items.  Parents and students are asked to come for school business only and to leave the campus immediately afterward. Teachers are expected to be available for the same number of hours as their teaching schedule. It will be their choice to do this at school or from their home office. Please do not send emails to them on weekends or Easter vacation. 

Abitur, MSA presentation make up exams, and AP exams will remain as scheduled. Abitur exams will be reorganized over three days: March 24, 25, 26. More information will come directly to the students from Herr Wiechert. MSA written exams (originally scheduled for April) are postponed and will be rescheduled at a later time (in May).  All other testing is canceled for these three weeks.  

There will be no 3rd quarter report cards for high school students. The scores and points will be included in the second semester grade.

Registration forms for grades 7 -10 have to be turned in by March 30th at the latest. Make sure you marked the class section. In front of our HS secretaries offices we will place four boxes for the grade levels. Please put the registration forms in these boxes.  If you prefer to send it via email, please send it to   

Parents who are both in critical professions and are needed for emergency services will have the option of care for students in grades EC – 6 Monday through Friday from 6:00 – 18:00. More details about special child care will follow.

From now through April 19th, the campus is closed to ALL meetings. This includes: Parent Council, Educational Directorate, School Conference, Boy/Girl Scouts, Verein, and all events.

If you, or your child, has received a positive Coronavirus (COVID-19) test, you must let us know via email to the principal AND contact the Gesundheitsamt.

Informationen zu der Schule während der Schließungszeit wegen Corona

Liebe JFKS-Gemeinschaft,

wir hoffen, dass es Ihnen in dieser herausfordernden Situation gut geht.

Bitte stellen Sie sicher, dass Ihre Kinder verstehen, dass die nächsten 3 Wochen (bis zu den Oster-ferien) keine weiteren Ferientage sind. Der Unterricht wird so weit wie möglich auf Fernunterricht stattfinden. Die Lehrkräfte werden den Schülern und Schülerinnen Aufgaben bereitstellen.

Damit dies passieren kann, ist es notwendig, dass die Schüler/innen ihre E-Mails täglich abrufen und an den Aufgaben arbeiten. Bitte versichern Sie sich das dies geschieht. Grundschüler/innen werden Aufgaben von den Klassenlehrern/innen über die E-Mail der Eltern erhalten.

Die Lehrkräfte erwarten, dass die Schüler/innen selbstständig lernen und arbeiten. Die Lehrkräfte verlassen sich auf Ihre Unterstützung in dieser sehr ungewöhnlichen Situation.

Während der nächsten drei Wochen der Schulschließung wird die Schulleitung von Montag bis Freitag von 9.00 bis 13.00 Uhr mit jeweils einer Person besetzt sein. Untenstehend finden Sie die Hauptansprechpartner für den jeweiligen Tag, obwohl mehr verantwortliche Schulleiter anwesend sein werden.

Von den Lehrkräften wird erwartet, dass sie die gleiche Stundenanzahl verfügbar sind, wie ihr normaler Unterrichtsplan. Sie haben die Wahl, ob sie in der Schule oder von zu Hause arbeiten. Bitte senden Sie keine E-Mails an die Lehrkräfte an den Wochenenden oder in den Schulferien.

Während der Schulöffnungszeiten von 9.00 – 14.30 Uhr können die Eltern und Schüler/innen gerne täglich in die Schule kommen, um persönliche Gegenstände abzuholen – aus den Schließfächern oder vom Sekretariat, falls ein/e Lehrer/in darum jemanden gebeten hat, etwas abzuholen. Eltern von Grundschülern müssen sich mit ihren Lehrern in der Schule abstimmen, um Zugang zu den persönlichen Gegenständen ihrer Schüler zu erhalten.  Eltern und Schüler/innen werden gebeten, nur für diese Angelegenheiten in die Schule zu kommen und das Schulgelände anschließend sofort wieder zu verlassen.

Abiturprüfungen, MSA Präsentationen und AP-Prüfungen bleiben wie geplant. Die Abiturprüfungen werden innerhalb von drei Tagen neu organisiert: 24., 25. und 26. März. Weitere Informationen erhalten die Schülerinnen und Schüler direkt von Herrn Wiechert. Die schrifltlichen MSA Prüfungen (ursprünglich geplant für April) werden verschoben  und für einen neuen Termin (im Mai) angesetzt. Alle anderen Tests und Klassenarbeiten sind in diesen drei Wochen abgesagt.

Für die Oberschüler/innen wird keine Zwischenzeugnisse für das 3. Quartal geben. Die Wertungen und Punkte werden in die Zensur für das zweite Semester einfließen.

Registration Forms für die Klassenstufen 7-10 müssen bis zum 30. März abgegeben werden. Bitte vergewissern Sie sich, dass die Klasse / Homeroom angegeben ist. Vor dem Sekretariat der Oberschule werden wir vier Fächer für die jeweiligen Klassenstufen aufstellen. Bitte legen Sie das Papier in die Fächer. Falls Sie E-Mail bevorzugen, schicken Sie eine PDF Datei des Scans an  . 

Eltern , die sowohl in systemrelevanten Berufen tätig sind als auch für den Notdienst benötigt werden, werden die Möglichkeit haben, die Notbetreuung für die Klassenstufen Eingangsklassen bis 6 zu nuten. Montag bis Freitag von 6:00 – 18:00 Uhr. Weitere Informationen für die Notbetreuung folgt.

Von heute an bis einschließlich 19. April ist der Campus für ALLE Meetings geschlossen. Dies schließt ein: Elternvertretung, Erziehungsdirektorium, Schulkonferenz, Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinder, Verein und sämtliche Veranstaltungen.

Wenn Sie oder Ihr Kind einen positiven Coronavirus-Test (COVID-19) erhalten haben, müssen Sie per E-Mail die Schulleitung informieren UND das Gesundheitsamt kontaktieren.

Please read the tweet by Jens Spahn, German health minister, regarding a recommended quarantine for 14 days for all travelers with or without symptoms returning from Austria, Switzerland and Italy. We have no other information from the health office at this time.

The estimated arrival time of our 8th graders and the JFKS staff is 19:15.

Friendly reminder: Please do not block the ramp entrance or exit when parking and allow for the buses to safely drive up the ramp by staying on the sidewalk! Thank you!

The JFKS gym will be closed this weekend (14-15 March 2020). All sport activities have been canceled. Thank you for your understanding.

The SAT test scheduled for Saturday, 14 March 2020 at JFKS is officially canceled. We have received confirmation from the College Board, however, their website apparently has not been updated yet.

Participants should receive an email with further details.

Report from Zillertal Thursday, 12.3.20

While the rest of the world is confronted with questions concerning bold new headlines,  canceled flights, and postponed conferences, your children have been challenged with issues and decision-making of their own: hiking or shopping? Gerstl Suppe oder chili? And the most dreaded question of all:  Will we pass our first room inspection?

Under brilliant azure skies and warm temps, the students enjoyed their first ski-free day on Thursday. That means our kids had a relaxing day of sampling Kaiserschmarr’n, replenishing their throat lozenges and hand sanitizer supplies, and enjoying the company of friends in the fresh alpine air, marred only by the freshly sprayed manure of local farmers.

Upon returning to our hotel, the kids had many options for voluntary activities including a workout and jog with Mr. Mandell and a chess tournament under the supervision of Herr Gassner. Some enjoyed a football toss or soccer outside, but eventually most were occupied with preparing for the Faculty Room Inspector team sweep of Mr. Lang, Ms. Love and Mr. Felt. Under a rigorous standard emphasizing cleanliness, orderliness and atmosphere, rooms were judged and scored until our Best Three were determined (is your child in Room 212/312, 203 and 112?), with additional honorable mention accolades offered as well. We won’t mention the disasters by room number, but there is certainly room for improvement in a few cases.

The kids were in good spirits at this evening’s class 8a activity of “Jeopardy,” another triumph after the previous night’s “best dance party in years,” according to a veteran ski staff member. Your kids continue to make improvements in table manners and general cooperation, and, coupled with much success in the first round of ski instruction, has made this excursion a successful one to date, despite the extraordinary circumstances of the world around us.
