2026 Ski Trip Update #3

The end is in sight and we all have mixed emotions. Your kids are looking forward to sleeping in their own beds, cuddling with pets and being with family again. At the same time, they are sad to leave this bubble where they stay up late talking to roommates and the school day is spent on the slopes instead of in the classroom.

On the Slopes:

Students spent two days pushing hard with their last ski instructor of the trip. Former beginners did not look like beginners anymore as they practiced skiing backwards with Mr. Weiss! Advanced skiers also had plenty of new challenges like skiing on only one ski with Herr Stamer.

The last day of skiing meant students could ski in groups with their friends. It was a snowy day with low visibility and the kids were excellent! They skied in control and enjoyed the snow in their faces. It was fun to see mixed groups of experienced and new skiers together and admire how far everyone has come in two short weeks.

Off the Slopes:

The second ski free day brought new champions in the JFKS Ski Trip Cup (soccer tournament) and new champions in the room inspection competition (shout out to room 211/311!).

Last night two students were crowned Ski Trip Götter. Students elected by their homeroom competed in 5 different disciplines to demonstrate their creativity, athleticism and brains. The two students from 8A proved worthy of the title and the crowns.

As teachers, we love the limited technology/phone time for your kids. It leaves space for thought provoking questions like “Would you rather have to go back down to fifth grade again or have your hair cut in a bowl cut?” and “We’ve been arguing about this all day. Can you please tell us if her aura is more like the moon or Saturn?” and the unexpectedly popular question of “Will I get sent home if I steal a chicken from the farm next door?”

Your kids are currently trying to stuff their clothes back into suitcases and making their last trips to Spar in case the piles of snacks in their rooms aren’t enough for the bus ride back to Berlin. Tonight the students have the final dance party where two new DJs will get to debut and we might see a rematch of the break dancing competition.

Huge shoutout to our team doctor, Frau Dr. Schier, who has been working many extra hours taking care of sick kids during a trip with a lot of illnesses. We are all so grateful to have her on our team.

Frau Schier and Ms. Greeves are incredible members of our team. Both are former students, incredible ski instructors and very patient with the kids. They volunteer their time with us every year and their contributions are priceless.

The trip has had its ups and downs, as all trips do, but overall this trip was fantastic. We saw so much growth from the students in not only skiing but also in personal skills. We all laughed a lot and made memories to last a lifetime.
