At JFKS, students start at the high school in 7th Grade. They take part in an Orientation Day the Friday before school starts when they get an opportunity to tour the High School buildings guided by older students, receive their schedules and can get a locker assigned.
As in the Elementary School, all students take classes in English and German on their respective Mother or Partner Tongue level. All 7th Grade students who are in the D1 or D2 level of German instruction start with their third language – they have the choice between French and Spanish.
Students in D3 or D4 who have not reached the D2 level yet, are assigned four additional hours in “Deutsch-aktiv” to further develop their German skills.
Other subjects in 7th Grade include Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, Music, Art and Physical Education.
At the end of 7th Grade students decide which elective course they would like to take in 8th Grade, courses offered include French, Spanish, Latin, Drama, Computer Science, Science Lab and Art.
The entire 8th Grade takes part in a class ski trip during the second semester of the school year.
