The Boys Tennis Team met their match against a powerful (and frequent qualifier for Nationals) Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium, achieving a well-earned SILVER medal in the Berlin Championships today in a highly competitive tournament at Sports Club Zehlendorfer Wespen.
Congratulations to the team for their display of both talent and sportsmanship – our school was extremely well-represented today.
Congratulations to our students who represented JFKS in the 3rd Grade District Swim Competition. They won 2nd place which qualifies the team for the Berlin finals on June 28.
Congratulations to our JFKS WK3 Girls Tennis team for winning the Berlin championship this year – again!
They will represent our school in the German championship in the fall.
Remember to regularly check the online picture album of all Lost & Found items. Items in the gym and HS are NOT photographed but picked up on the same day as the clothing donation.
The last day items from the online album can be picked up is THURSDAY, JUNE 15. Clothing items will be donated that day from all lost and found areas (gym, HS and ES).

Der Regisseur und Rapper Tyrone ist als Künstler ein Superstar, er stellt gerade sein neuestes Theaterprojekt „Tartuffe“ vor. Leider geht bei dieser offenen Probe einiges schief: Die Textsicherheit der Schauspieler ist bescheiden, einige erscheinen gar nicht erst und das Stück ist noch nicht einmal fertig… Da er sich aber am klassischen Stoff von Molière orientiert, steht dem Erfolg eigentlich nichts im Wege… Denn Tartuffe ist ein esoterischer Hochstapler, betrügerischer Scharlatan, kosmischer Weltverschwörer, der gekommen ist, um zu bleiben. Um sich wie ein Parasit einzunisten, um seinen Wirt Orgon auszusaugen. Wozu dieser leider allzu bereit ist. Orgons Familie hingegen ist kritischer, … naja, teilweise. Das Unheil nimmt seinen Lauf, als Orgon seinem neuen „Bruder Tartuffe“ seine maroden Firmen überschreibt. Als Tartuffe auch noch Haus und die Hand der Tochter bekommen soll, rebelliert die Familie. Doch zu spät: Je mehr Tartuffe seine eigenen Verfehlungen eingesteht, desto mehr überzeugt dies Orgon von Tartuffes Redlichkeit. Kommt es zur Katastrophe? Ist der Stoff von 1664 immer noch aktuell? Und: Wo ist eigentlich Oma Pernelles Hörgerät?
Da es sich bei Tartuffe nicht nur um eine Komödie handelt, wird im Stück nicht nur mit Elementen der Commedia dell’Arte gespielt, sondern wegen der gesellschaftspolitischen Relevanz auch mit Brechts epischem Theaterkonzept.
Hinweis: Das Stück ist aufgrund des Inhaltes für Grundschulkinder eher nicht geeignet (z.B. unmäßiger Alkoholkonsum auf der Bühne etc. Wir weisen ausdrücklich darauf hin, dass Alkohol ein gefährliches Nervengift ist!)

In honor of the upcoming Juneteenth (June 19th holiday) – School with Courage, School without Racism will be sending out a weekly email with videos or images throughout the month of June.
During April, the 10th and 11th grade Latin classes had the opportunity to visit Rome for a week. The entire trip was organized and realized by Frau Amann and Herr Lühr.
Our trip can be divided into three distinct parts: exploring the remains of Ancient Rome, appreciating medieval and modern Italian art and architecture, and enjoying our free time.
We had all read about some of the historical buildings from the times of the Roman Empire in Latin class, so it was nice to see some of them in real life. From all the ruins left from Ancient Rome, including the Colosseum, the Forum Romanum, and the place of Caesar’s death, the Catacombs of Domitilla stood out. Located on the outskirts of Rome, the catacombs provide a fascinating glimpse into early Christianity. It surprised me what efforts they had to undertake to bury their fellow Christians after running out of land. Not only were the catacombs pitch dark and dug deep inside the earth, but they also used to have an unbearable smell of decay.
Besides the remains of Ancient Rome, we also visited more contemporary landmarks, including the Villa Borghese, an art museum, and Vatican City. The amount of wealth and craftsmanship displayed in St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican museums was very impressive, with long halls and large domes filled with some of the finest art I’ve ever seen.
Although appreciating Rome’s cultural heritage was fun, we also enjoyed our free time. Some of us went shopping, and we discovered the Roman quarter of Trastevere, which was a nice place to spend our evenings.
Thank you, Frau Amann and Herr Lühr, for going with us on this great trip. It was an eventful week, and we all were sad when we had to leave Rome after a week.
