Welcome to the John F. Kennedy School!
Congratulations on your posting to Berlin! We believe that you will find Germany’s capital to be an exciting and rewarding experience. If you have children, the John F. Kennedy School can help to ease the transition for your family through its German-American school program, blending the best of both worlds.
As part of our bilingual, bicultural mission, we provide an education that aligns closely with schools in the United States. This includes A.P. courses at the high school level and the granting of an American high school diploma. While maintaining American standards through our accreditation by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges, we simultaneously introduce your children to the rich culture and language of our host country.
There is a long-standing special relationship between the John F. Kennedy School and the United States. The school was founded as a joint project of the U.S. Army and the City of Berlin more than 50 years ago. With the departure of the U.S. Military at the conclusion of the Cold War and the relocation of the U.S. Embassy from Bonn to Berlin, the State Department became the new official American voice in the governance of the John F. Kennedy School.
The special status of the U.S. Embassy allows the ambassador to appoint two members to the Educational Directorate, the school’s board of education, who collectively have a veto power over all decisions on the board. This arrangement ensures that our school remains responsive to the needs of Embassy families at all times.
Your children have guaranteed admission to the John F. Kennedy School, regardless of the time of year of your arrival or grade level sought. You need only to download your Application Form, e-mail or mail it in, and your children will have a place at our school.
In addition to providing a largely familiar education for American children, the John F. Kennedy School also supports the JFK Sports Club which offers recreational activities in a variety of sports, including competitive swimming, baseball and Lacrosse, throughout the year. The school has its own Cub Scout Pack 152 and a close connection to Boy Scout Troop 46 and the Girl Scouts. The John F. Kennedy School also has a strong Odyssey of the Mind program starting in 4th grade. Many of these activities take place right here at our school.
As you can see, the connections between the John F. Kennedy School and the U.S. Embassy community are everywhere. We welcome you to our, to your, school. If there are any questions or issues with which we can assist, either before or after enrollment, please give us a call using our direct lines or send us an e-mail. We are here to serve you.
