Application and necessary documents
Download and complete the Elementary School Application Form. Page 1 of the application includes important information regarding the required documents that must be submitted with the application form.
Please note that only complete applications with all necessary documents and signatures will be processed. Due to the high volume of applications we are unable to remind you or follow up regarding missing documents.
If you submit your application digitally, please attach all documents as a single PDF file, if possible.
See JFKS Application Periods. Once your complete application has been received, you will be sent a confirmation email within 10-12 weeks.
Applications are processed in the order they are received within the application periods, however, the date of submission has no effect on your application. The admission process will only begin in May and June and will continue in the fall if space is available. Your application is valid and will be considered for late admission until September 30 of the calendar year.
If we are able to admit your child, we will invite him/her to a language test.
With consistently over 1000 applications per school year, we are unable to admit all applicants. Admission is possible only on a space available basis and the number of spaces varies each school year. While we track sibling applications during the application process, it is possible that we cannot admit all siblings if no space is available in certain grade levels.
International or “Third National” Applicants
International students can be admitted to grades 1 through 6 as long as there are no German or American applicants on the waiting list. With consistently over 1000 applications, we are unable to admit all German and American applicants, therefore, applicants without German or American citizenship have not been considered for admission in recent years.
In case the waiting list is exhausted, the Educational Directorate must approve any ‘third national’ applicant considered for admission. They must also pass a language test. They must demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to their American classmates in the grade level for which they are applying and their report cards must reflect strong academic performance.
“Wunschschule” for Grade 1
Children who are registered in Berlin must apply at their local (district) school (Einzugsschule) regardless of their desire to attend a different school. If an application is made to the Senat to transfer to another school (click here for more information), it is not required to list JFKS as a Wunschschule. Please note that listing JFKS as a desired school does not have any affect on the admission process and does not guarantee admission.
Please be advised that admission is contingent upon the applicant being registered as living within Berlin’s city limits (see para. I, 1 of the “Admissions Regulations”). For applicants moving to Berlin, proof of residency in Berlin must be submitted before the beginning of the school year.
