College Counseling

The goal of the college placement function of the high school counseling program is to help JFKS students matriculate to the next level of their career preparation. Approximately 90% of JFKS students ultimately attend a university. The JFKS School Counselors help these students develop a profile to maximize their acceptability to quality schools. Universities use the following criteria to determine a student’s acceptability:

– High School record (courses taken and grades received beginning with the 9th grade)
– Rank in class
– Test scores (PSAT, SAT, ACT, TOEFL, and AP exams)
– Essays
– Teacher /counselor recommendations
– Extracurricular activities, internships and practicums
– Special talents (e.g. musical ability for admission to music departments, athletics, etc.)
– Personal interviews
– Community Service

The JFKS School Counseling department is responsible for the school-wide testing program as outlined.
