Today marks the last week of Black History Month. Although the month is over, we should never stop learning about Black history. One month will never be enough to fully explore Black history, let alone learn about and honor Black leaders. But we encourage you all to use the rest of this month to dig into history and the present and reflect on where your own powers and privileges intersect and interlock.
IDEAS challenges our school community to use this opportunity to learn about Black leaders in both German & American histories to further cultivate empathy and accountability with these histories, and to participate in conversations that can make our communities more dynamic.

Dear Parents,
Due to several unions calling on their members to strike, the BVG transportation will be severely impacted on Monday morning, February 26 until 14:00. This will affect busses (including those coming from Brandenburg), trams and U-Bahn. The S-Bahn will not be affected!
Then, unless an agreement is reached beforehand, the BVG will go on strike again on Thursday morning (03:00), February 29 until Friday afternoon (14:00), March 1. This will affect busses (including those coming from Brandenburg), trams and U-Bahn. The S-Bahn will not be affected!
Any delays due to the strike or increased traffic will be excused by the homeroom teacher, however, please be sure to plan accordingly and leave extra early. Thank you for planning ahead!

If you are looking for a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon, we invite you to join us this Sunday, 25 February 2024 for a performance by the JFKS High School Orchestra, High School Concert Choir, and Parent Faculty Choir.
The concert is at 16:00 at the Pauluskirche Berlin-Zehlendorf and will feature a beautiful program of music by diverse composers.
Admission is free (donations are gratefully accepted) and we look forward to celebrating our talented musicians, including the 12th grade Abitur students who will be performing in their final concert as members of the high school music department.
BERMUN2 will take place on February 22-24 at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
Seven committees will debate various topics addressing the conference theme “Rising Nationalism: Fortifying International Institutions”. We are expecting over 250 participants including 81 students from JFKS in grades 7-12.

Spenden für die „Potsdamer Tafel“ Liebe JFKS-Familien, nach der sehr erfolgreichen Hilfsaktion im letzten Jahr sammelt der Fachbereich Humanistische Lebenskunde wieder (Lebensmittel-)Spenden für die „Potsdamer Tafel“ (Ausgabestelle Teltow). Seit vielen Jahren ist es Tradition an der JFKS, für Bedürftige Sachspenden zu sammeln. Dies kann nur durch das großzügige Engagement der JFKS-Familien so erfolgreich umgesetzt werden! Für bedürftigen Kunden der “Potsdamer Tafel” sammeln wir haltbare Lebensmittel, Hygieneartikel und kleine Spielzeuge. (bitte nur in Originalverpackung und keine gebrauchten Gegenstände, keine Nahrungsmittel mit abgelaufenem Haltbarkeitsdatum). Hilfreich wären zum Beispiel:
Die Spenden sammeln wir in der Zeit vom 20. bis 28.2.2024. Bitte geben Sie Ihren Kindern die Spenden in dieser Zeit mit in die Schule, sie können bei den Lebenskundelehrerinnen oder direkt in der Eingangshalle neben der Aula beim John-F.-Kennedy Portrait abgegeben werden. Donations for the “Potsdamer Tafel” Dear JFKS families, Following last year’s very successful campaign, the Humanistic Life Skills department is once again collecting (food) donations for the “Potsdamer Tafel” food bank (Teltow distribution point). It has been a tradition at the JFKS for many years to collect donations for those in need. This can only be realized so successfully thanks to the generous commitment of the JFKS families! We collect non-perishable food, hygiene articles and small toys for customers of the “Potsdamer Tafel” (please only in original packaging and no used items, no food with an expired best-before date). Helpful would be for example:
We will be collecting the donations from February 20 to 28, 2024. Please give your children donations to take to school during this time, they can be dropped off with the life skills teachers or directly at the collection point in the hallway next to the aula.
